The following videos were created with Stephanie Berry, Director of the Huckleberry Center for Creative Learning, in Valencia, CA.  I have taught writing at "Huck" for the last ten years and the video discussions below outline my teaching philosophy and how I work with students in the Huck writing and literature program:  THE WRITER'S PATH TO CRITICAL THINKING.  For more information on these classes and others offered at Huck, please see the Huck website:  http://www.hucklearning.org/
Each of the videos below, outline the specific course content for individual Writer's PaCT Classes.  The first in this series is for my older, high school students.  A written class description can be found here.
This next class is for older, middle school students, preparing for high school work.  It is called "Read to Write," and a complete written description may be found here.

This following video describes my "Novels to Knowledge" class for middle school students (approximately 10-13 years of age).  In this class, students write essays on Newbery Award winning novels chosen to help students learn and understand history through literature.  More information about this class may be found here.
This next video describes a very special class I've developed at Huck: "Creative Writing and Keyboarding."  This is a class that combines basic keyboarding skills (QWERTY fingering and Computer basics) with Creative Writing.  In the class, students learn to type and practice those skills as they write their own imaginative stories.  We learn the basic of creative writing (plot/conflict, character development, setting, mood, dialogue, etc.), through the classic short stories we read and analyze together in class.   More detailed information on this class may be found here.
For my elementary school students, those ages 8-11, I have designed a class called "Read Write Now" The following video gives an overview of the types of classic, chapter books I use in this class and the in-depth focus on paragraphs I emphasize for this age.  More information on this course may be found here.
For my youngest writing students (ages 6-9), I offer a class called "Writing Adventures in Storybook Land."  As the title indicates, this is a fun and adventurous class where students explore inspiring storybooks and grow to think of themselves as writers!  Enjoy the video below and for more information, click here.
